Ayan Hersi-Essa, D.C. is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where she majored in Biology. She earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Western State Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon in 2003. Dr. Hersi-Essa is Board Certified and Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 2009, she and Dr. Hirsi-Essa joined forces and opened FOREST POINT Chiropractic & Rehab Center, PLLC. Dr. Hersi-Essa has always been inspired by the natural and non-invasive ways in which the body can heal and regenerate itself. While volunteering as an undergraduate student she was introduced to chiropractic care and how holistic and natural it was. She is hands on in her approach and she gets to know her patients and their lifestyles, so she can develop the best treatment for them. Being a Chiropractic Doctor has allowed Dr. Hersi-Essa to help people suffering from a wide array of ailments, and that is what brings her the greatest joy.

Shukri Hirsi-Essa, MSPT, DPT graduated from Marymount University with her Masters in Physical Therapy in 2002. She went on to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Marymount University in 2008. Dr. Hirsi- Essa is Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Prior to opening FOREST POINT Chiropractic & Rehab Center, PLLC in 2009, she managed an out-patient orthopedic clinic in Northern Virginia. Dr. Hirsi-Essa has several years of experience in both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation. She excels insports, orthopedics, neurological and pathological related rehabilitation. She was inspired to be in the medical field at a young age. It was through her early volunteer work in a local hospital’s rehabilitation department where she realized that helping people return to their normal routines after illness, injury or surgery was what she wanted to do with her training. Dr. Hirsi-Essa knows the struggles many patients endure, and things that are often taken for granted by others during your rehabilitation. With physical therapy she will develop an individualized treatment plan to meet your recovery needs.

Tanya E. Devereaux, LPTA, CCRP has been a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia since 1994, with 20+ years of experience in sports and orthopaedic rehabilitation. She is a graduate of Northern Virginia Community College, where she graduated Magna Cum Lade and was President of her class. Over the years, she has developed and directed several aquatic therapy programs, developed specialized therapy teams, managed a staff of physical therapist assistants, been a member of an outcomes study team, and has been a clinical instructor of physical therapist assistant students for over 19 years. She has held certifications in weight training, strength training, aquatic exercise, pre & post-natal exercise, work conditioning, and work hardening. Most recently Tanya has become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner through the University of Tennessee, allowing her to do rehabilitation with animals. Tanya’s work environments have included corporate and private outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation facilities, private residences, and animal hospitals. She enjoys working with individuals and animals of all ages and physical abilities.
